Week Two Recap: Traditions, Team Spirit, and Finding The Flow!

As we reached the end of our second week of camp, the energy around camp continued to build. Campers have settled into their daily routines, grown more confident in their activities, and are creating friendships that seem to deepen with each passing day. From the waterfront to the stage, every corner of camp has been filled with excitement, creativity, and laughter.
One of last week’s biggest highlights was Senior Airband, one of Vega’s most anticipated traditions. Airband is much more than a lip-sync competition. Each Olympic team spends thoughtful hours creating an original performance by choreographing dances, recording dialogue and music, and weaving everything together into an entertaining story. The result is an incredible showcase of creativity, teamwork, humor, and summer camp spirit that always leaves the audience amazed by what the campers create together.
This week also included one of the most beloved days of the summer: Our Fourth of July celebration. For many campers, Independence Day at Vega is a favorite tradition they look forward to all year long. The day began with The Great American Egg Toss, followed by our traditional flag-raising ceremony. One of the most enjoyable moments comes when Tamary campers and Kyle march around the flagpole while all of camp joins in singing You’re a Grand Old Flag, celebrating both our country and the community we continue to build together. This year also had a new twist that consisted of two Tamary campers from Spain addressing the entire camp community as this year’s international guest speaker for the 4th of July, which has historically been a given by a staff member.
The celebration continued throughout the day with Olympic competitions, a refreshing waterfront afternoon, an ice cream sundae bar, and concluded with a spectacular fireworks display over Echo Lake—an unforgettable ending to a day filled with smiles and camp spirit.
You can also enjoy a glimpse of Beach Night, where Seniors through Tamary enjoy dinner and a variety of beach games at the Vega Beach that include a hula-hoop contest and age-group Tug-O-War.
Olympics continue to bring tremendous excitement to camp. Every event, every cheer, and every act of teamwork contributes to the overall score. After several exciting events in this week of competition, the Green Team holds an early lead, but last night’s Junior Airband ended with a big White Team win. There are many major events still to come, as we always say “It’s Anyone’s Olympics, It’s Everyone’s Olympics”!
The Week 2 recap video captures a glimpse of the incredible moments that filled the week. We hope you enjoy watching these memories as much as we enjoyed creating them.
We can’t wait to share another exciting week with you soon!
