Week 2 Recap: Celebration, Connection, and Gratitude
Week 2 brought the kind of moments that define a Vega summer – big adventures, teammates cheering each other on, celebrating camp spirit and traditions – and our Week 2 recap video captures it all!
Highlights from the Week:
- Tamary campers took on the Kennebec River for an unforgettable whitewater rafting adventure. With crashing waves, teamwork, and smiles all around, it was a highlight they’ll never forget.
- Fourth of July festivities brought the whole camp together for classic fun – especially the legendary Great American Egg Toss and a night sky lit up by Vega’s own fireworks display.
- Campers continued to dive into their activities – discovering new interests, progressing at a variety of skills, and above all, having fun! All around camp there have been faces beaming, friends cheering each other on, and the unmistakable feeling of summer at Vega in full swing.
- Seniors, Super Seniors, and Tamary enjoyed an epic evening in games of luck at Casino Night!
- Olympics is officially underway with opening ceremony in Sunset Circle, and the first official competitions with Landsports games, Swim relays, and Senior Airband. The White Team has taken an early lead – for now – but it’s still anyone’s game!
Learn and Role Model
As we reflect on the joy of the past two weeks, our hearts are also with the camp communities in Texas who are enduring unimaginable loss following devastating floods. This moment reinforces just how much camp matters, both as camp directors and parents of campers:
Camp provides a sacred space where campers and staff can learn and role model how to be kind, resilient, and appreciative – especially in moments that are hard.
The American Camp Association (ACA) has shared ways to help Texas Hill Country camps:
We head into Week 3 with even more gratitude for each other, resolve for safety, and awe for the extraordinary privilege of creating a wholesome summer filled with joy, growth, and belonging. May we never take this time together for granted.
With love,
Kyle and Emily
