The Unsung Heroes of Camp Vega: Pre-Camp Maintenance and Landscaping Crew

The anticipation for summer has been growing exponentially! We are excited to welcome the entire leadership team, as well as the ropes, waterski, swim, sail, and horseback riding staff today. And while campers eagerly await their adventures, there’s a dedicated group of individuals who have toiled tirelessly since late April, ensuring that everything is pristine and ready for the best summer camp experience ever. They are the unsung heroes of Camp Vega—the pre-camp maintenance and landscaping crew.

This remarkable team has been hard at work, transforming the campgrounds from their winter slumber into a vibrant haven for fun and learning. Armed with rakes, shovels, lawnmowers, paint brushes, power washers, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, they tackle every task with diligence and pride.

Spring cleanup is no small feat at Camp Vega. Leaves, sticks, and debris from the fall, winter, and early spring months must be cleared away, allowing the natural beauty of the surroundings to shine through. But it’s not just about aesthetics; it’s about creating a safe and welcoming environment for campers and staff alike.

Imagine the scene: a group of dedicated individuals, clad in their work attire, weaving through the campgrounds like artists with a blank canvas. Each fallen branch is collected, every patch of overgrown grass meticulously trimmed. They work in harmony, their collective efforts breathing new life into every corner of the camp.

Their responsibilities extend far beyond mere landscaping. The pre-camp maintenance crew is also responsible for setting up equipment and docks throughout the camp—a task that requires not only physical strength but also meticulous attention to detail. From assembling soccer goals to ensuring the safety of waterfront activities, their work ensures that every aspect of camp life runs smoothly.

What truly sets this team apart is their unwavering dedication to their craft. While others may see it as just a job, they approach each task with a sense of pride and ownership. They understand the importance of their work in shaping the camp experience, and they take that responsibility to heart.

Moreover, their commitment to excellence is matched only by their camaraderie. Over 80 staff members have been on-site since May, some for over a month, working side by side to make Camp Vega the best it can be. Bonds were forged through shared challenges and triumphs – it is, in a sense, an uncanny teambuilding endeavor.

As the rays of summer sunlight last longest this time of year and signal the arrival of another camp season, let us take a moment to recognize the unsung heroes who make it all possible. To the pre-camp maintenance and landscaping crew of Camp Vega: your hard work and dedication have not gone unnoticed. You are the backbone of this camp, the silent guardians of its beauty and functionality. And for that, we are eternally grateful.
