Week 4 Recap – Visiting Day, Derby Delights & Classic Moments
(Just Past) Mid-Summer Magic
There are weeks that sparkle a little brighter—and Week 4 was one of them. With families visiting, campers adventuring off camp, and traditions like Derby Day and the Vega Classic in full swing, this week brought out the best in camp spirit, connection, and growth
Highlights from the Week:
- The Vega Classic once again inspired campers to push themselves, this time with a record turnout on both the 1- and 3-mile courses.
- Visiting Day was such a wonderful day for families, campers, and staff to unite and enjoy on camp and Echo Lake.
- Derby Day brought the fun of a full-blown carnival to Vega. All Vega campers, as well as brothers from nearby Maine camps, enjoyed the fun (and cotton candy) filled day!
- Sub Juniors – Sub Super Juniors splashed the day away at Aquaboggan Water Park, while Super Juniors – Super Seniors enjoyed the day at Ferry and Crescent Beaches. Tamary “took over Vega” while the other campers were away, and finished their day with dinner at a local hibachi restaurant.
- The rhythm of daily camp life continued – enjoy our talented media teams’ creative take on it in the Week 4 video!
Olympic Update – Eyes on the Finish Line
In a shocking Olympic update, campers found out that the Green Team had taken the lead! They eeked it out in Gold Rush, and Green Team handily won the Counselor Hunt. The Olympic Judging Panel is still tabulating the results of the Water Brigade and Sing Off (not to be confused with the Olympic Sing), and there are a slew of events coming up. It is anyone’s Olympics…It’s everyone’s Olympics!!
Spotlight – Visiting Day Reflections
Visiting Day is a highlight for campers and families, as well as a powerful moment of emotional growth. Reuniting in the morning, only to part in the afternoon, inevitably brings “big feelings” for campers and families alike. Each year we see girls gain confidence in their ability “to do hard things” and realize that “2 things can be true” – they can say goodbye AND keep going strong. Even Kyle, who got to spend the following day with his sons at his second Visiting Day (out of eight summers) shared that the goodbye didn’t feel quite as hard the prior year. The growth for parents and campers is only amplified as the years go by.
With excitement from all of us at Camp Vega, onward and upward to the final stretch of summer!
