Vega Songs are Online

Vega campers sing camp songs at Sunset Circle

Dear Vega,

Do you ever find yourself sing Vega songs throughout the year?  Alumnae, do you sing these songs to your kids?  We know we do!

We are excited to announce that we have published the most loved Vega songs on our website under the “Campers” tab!  For new, current and past campers, this provides an opportunity to learn and enjoy the songs that make Vega such a special place.

Listening to and singing these songs immediately bring us back to Sunset Circle and the shores of Echo Lake.  We think of Olympic Sing or just humming the tunes while walking the gravel paths of camp.

Happy singing!

Kyle and Emily

What’s better than Gaga at Vega?  Gaga at Vega…at night!  Yes, it’s official.  Lights are going to be installed at the VeGa-ga Arena.  Now one of the most popular activities can last even longer each day.  Thanks to everyone who suggested this idea!

Want to learn more about Gaga?  See what Wiki has to say about it.

Speaking of activities, did you know that you can choose your activities now for your summer schedule?  Log in to Camp in Touch to select your activity preferences.  We want your schedule to be just the way you want it!

We can hardly wait to play night Gaga with you!

Warmly,

Camp Big Sisters & Little Sisters!

Older and younger campers are brought together through the Camp Big Sister/Little Sister program

Dear Vega,

A wonderful thing about Vega is its many well-loved traditions.  One of our favorites is the Camp Big Sister/Little Sister program. We are excited to announce that we have just emailed this year’s Camp Big/Little Sister assignments to parents!

Camp Big Sisters talk to their Little Sisters before the summer, sharing their enthusiasm, knowledge and love for Vega. Once at camp, we want to make sure that all of our Vega campers feel right at home as quickly as possible, and Camp Sisters are a great way to help make that happen!  They visit their Little Sisters on the first day of camp, and regularly throughout the summer.  During camp we hold Camp Sister events, like special meals and evening activities.

We hope you enjoy getting to know your Camp Big Sister or Little Sister!  Thank you and have fun!

Warmly,
Kyle and Emily

Staff Update!

As a summer family, we like to keep up with our members throughout the year. This is what Anthony Pyatt (Office Manager/Assistant Program Director) is doing with his school in Austin, TX. Check it out!
Hi Vega Families!
This is a very exciting time for me! Mainspring Schools, a private non-profit preschool I am a part of is going through some great changes! Since 1941, (almost as long as Camp Vega has been changing lives) Mainspring Schools has been supporting the lives of the most disadvantaged children and their families in Austin, TX by providing the highest quality education and care. Just last week, we opened an addition to our building, expanding total capacity to serve 30% more children each year, so as you can imagine I’ve been busy!
Thank you for taking the time to read about Mainspring in Austin!
Yeah, White and Green in 2013!
Respectfully,
Anthony Pyatt

“Discover Camp Vega” Video

Camp Vega from above

We are proud to release the trailer of Vega’s new promotional video.  We produced the video in-house, collecting footage throughout the 2012 summer, including this snapshot from the video taken from a helicopter on a beautiful July morning.

The Discover Vega video can be seen on our website’s video gallery, www.campvega.com/video-gallery, or directly through Vimeo.  This is a 5 minute trailer for the full promotional video, which will be completed soon and will be 20 minutes long.  We will be sure to get the word out when it is complete and live online.

We encourage you to share this video with your family and friends.  The magic, fun and friendship we all find at Vega shines through.  Thank you to the 2012 Vega  media staff for the fabulous footage, and to Jeremy Aiken for his filming and editing of the entire project.

We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Much love,

Kyle, Emily and Linda

February Updates

Dear Vega,

Things are really gearing up in the Camp Vega office as we prepare for this summer.  We have been busy getting events booked for trips like Seadogs, Funtown Splashtown USA, The Beach Trip, Bar Harbor, Sunday River, and of course Canada!  We’ve also been putting Olympic events, shows, banquets and more in the calendar.  We’re always open to banquet theme ideas – give us a call or send us an email!

Last weekend, perhaps in honor of President’s Day, we were down in the Washington DC area meeting new campers and telling them about Vega.  We were also lucky enough to get together with several Vega families in the area – thanks for having us!

Counting the days,

Kyle & Emily

P.S.  Make sure you’ve logged into your Camp In Touch account to pick activities and travel.  We’d love to put together anyone’s schedule if they ask us!

Camp Trucking Online Registration

Vega camper and counselor on Opening Day 2012

Dear Vega,

Although June may seem far away, the days are getting longer and there are only 125 until camp!  Before you know it, your bags will be packed and you’ll be ready to go.  We want your arrival on opening day to be fun and easy.  One important way we make that happen is by getting your bags unpacked for you before you arrive.

We use a company called Camp Trucking to pick your bags at your house and deliver them directly to you bunk.  There your counselors neatly unpack your items into your cubby, shelf and bed.  Camp Trucking picks up all over the continental US, and is the most efficient and cost effective way to get your items to camp.

Camp Trucking recently told us that their website, www.camptrucking.com, is open for registration for this summer, and they are starting to plan logistics to pick up everyone’s bags.  Please visit their website and to register online and learn more about their services.

Please let us, or Camp Trucking know if we can assist you.

Thank you and have a great weekend!

Kyle and Emily

Camp in Touch Forms and Dock Updates

Dear Vega,

We have been in full swing at the office getting all of the forms and information up for parents on everyone’s Vega Camp in Touch accounts.  We have also been busy interviewing staff and talking to new and interested families for this summer.  We will begin updating the “Meet the Staff” and “First Year Camper” pages on the Vega website soon.

Camper in Camp Vega’s swim lanes

Meanwhile, up at camp, Tiger, Scott and Anthony have been busy with a plethora of dock repairs in the shop.  Some of the repairs include building a brand new section of the swim lanes.  These docks are unique because they need to have walls in the water so swimmers can practice and compete with their flip turns!  These walls also help eliminate choppiness in the lanes, so everyone can get the smoothest swim possible.

That’s it for now, stay tuned!
Kyle & Emily
