Senior Airband

Camp Vega Airband After a couple “special” days here at Vega (Fourth of July and Beach Day), campers woke up this morning eager to get back to their daily activities and routines around camp.

Today was Green Care Day. The entire camp took the time to make some more environmentally friendly decisions throughout the day. There was a camp-wide effort made to minimize the amount of lights turned on in an effort to decrease Vega’s carbon footprint and instead enjoy the wonderful natural light provided from the sun. In addition, over 20 campers spent a couple hours this morning planting a blueberry bush garden down by the waterfront in the hopes that one day they can enjoy that locally grown produce.

This morning was a busy morning for the Vega soccer teams; the U11 team hosted Camp Wekeela and decisively defeated them 12-0. The 13/14 Soccer team traveled to Camp Matoaka and earned a hard fought 1-0 victory.

Meanwhile, Vega’s Climbing team headed across Echo Lake to Laurel to spend the morning competing against our lake rivals on the climbing wall.

Dinner was enjoyed on the lawn this evening while Senior Camp was buzzing about the much anticipated evening activity and Olympic competition. Tonight, each age group in Senior Camp was divided into small groups within their Green and White Olympic teams and were tasked with creating an Airband skit to the theme of “Vega’s Road Trip.”

It was a very entertaining night spent in The Lodge and was clear that each group put a lot of creativity, hard work and preparation into these performances.  After all the performances were complete, the panel of judges quickly tallied the votes and announced that the Tamary White Team was champion of the 2012 Senior Airband.

Great work to all those Senior Camp Green and White teams that competed tonight, you all did awesome!
